The project brings together 19 Higher Education Institutions from Europe and Latin America aiming at understanding and measuring the impact universities have on their local environment, and integrating this measure into their quality control systems.

Funded by the European Union through the Erasmus + programme for 2018 – 2022, the project organizes capacity-building workshops, study visits and reflection meetings in Europe, Latin America and online.

In this project, impact is understood as all the mid- and long-term changes brought by the results of an activity on its local environment, such as educational and intellectual, financial, business development, social and visibility results.

OBJECTIVES OF IMPALA

The project enriches the current national quality control systems, currently limited to the external evaluation of the teaching and research domains, by incorporating the measure of impact.

The project partners develop and validate an evaluation tool (the “Impact Assessment Framework – IAF”) that enables the assessment and strengthening of all the university’s activities, in particular, the services it provides to the community (“third mission“).

By realising their contribution to society, Higher Education Institutions update their strategic planning and adapt their organization and work structure to provide better services to meet the demands of their environment.
